Manic Monday

I figured I would continue my theme from yesterday and dedicate another post to the magic of music. I’m the kind of person who will listen to a good song on repeat until I overdose. I truly get addicted to it. It is often the only thing that gets me to the gym, and can easily change a monster Monday into a marvelous one….BUT before I get to that, I think it’s best you understand exactly what my Mondays look like.

Every week, the scenario is the same. Roll out of bed in the pitch black, fumble around in the abyss, trip over a computer chord, and catapult into the side of my dresser — re-bruising a knee that has barely recovered from the previous Monday’s routine.

From there I take a trip to the kitchen and the land of caffeine — or bacon, whichever I fall into first.

Like clockwork, I make my tea and eat my bacon and then, a weird phenomena takes over, the clock speeds up.

I twiddle my thumbs, spin in circles, recite Shakespeare — really I have no idea what happens in the next half hour. What I do know is that every Monday I end up running out of the door late. Consequently, I return 30 seconds later because I’ve forgotten something.

I am a proud member of the Manic Monday Club.

HOWEVER, if, and that is a big IF, at any point on my 25 minute drive I hear a song I love my whole Monday transforms. A rainbow emerges and knocks over the tornados, the molten Monday lava freezes up. Life is blissful and all is right in the world.

In fact, three of the best Mondays of my life are credited to songs that make me smile. Phil Collin’s “Sussudio”, Don Henley’s “Boys of Summer”, and Manfred Mann’s “Blinded by the Light”.  No matter the battle my body has gone through trying to get ready for work, if I hear one of these songs as I drive to work it will be an amazing day.

I didn’t hear one of those songs this morning.

Hey, not all stories have a fairy tale ending.
